European industries call for a bold and impactful Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Initiative

Cross sectoral industries have come together to champion the European Commission’s forthcoming Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Initiative through a position paper which calls for bold ambition, and five core principles to ensure impactful industrial growth.

The ‘EC Initiative on Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing: Principles for an impactful Europe’ calls for the recognition of societal and economic benefits from biotechnology, competitive market access, unlocked single market, investment frameworks including access to risk capital for scale up, plus the skills, IP and innovation principles needed to accelerate industrial transition.

Signatories include Alliance for Biosolutions, Association of Manufacturers and Formulators of Enzyme Products (AMFEP), Bio-Based Industries Consortium (BIC), BioChem Europe, Cellular Agriculture Europe, Confederation of European Yeast Producers (COFALEC), CropLife Europe, European Biodiesel Board (EBB), European Food and Fermentation Cultures Association (EFFCA), EU Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures (FEFANA), EuropaBio, European Confederation of Pharmaceutical Entrepreneurs (EUCOPE), EU Speciality Food Ingredients, European Bioplastics, European Biosolutions Coalition, Food Fermentation Europe, Good Food Institute Europe and IPA Europe.

Signatories will be expanded through 2024, working to highlight Initiative priorities for their own sectors and creating a shared voice for the transformation of Europe’s industry at a time of unprecedented global commitment to biomanufacturing.
